T.G.I. Fridays (Email Ad) ~ Pass or Fail?

I just received the email advertisement below from T.G.I. Fridays. Looks appetizing. 15% off the whole meal… sounds good to me. I think it’s a well done email ad. Bold colors, the deal is prominent, and the picture of the food closes the deal.

Macaroni Grill Fan Gating Special on Facebook

I’m a big fan of Macaroni Grill. The food and bread is the best. I keep telling myself that one of these days I’ll just go and eat bread and salad.. but it never happens. There’s always something on the menu that jumps out and me that I just have to get.

Last night I was emailed a special for their new happy hour and tapas. The special was being pushed through their Facebook page. It was a fan gating special, so in order to view the special I had to like their Facebook page. Since I go to Macaroni grill at least once per month, I had no problem Liking their page.

The first image below is before you like their page. Simple and clean.

This 2nd image is what you see after you’ve liked their page.  Click on the offer and you’re taken to a printable coupon for a free tapas. Or click on the sign up in the upper right corner and you’ll get a $5 off coupon.

My opinion… well done. I naturally clicked on both and printed my coupon. I’ve already been signed up for the newsletter, but nonetheless… effective use of fan gating and promotions.

Riddex Sonic Plus (Print ad) ~ Pass or Fail?

This print ad for Riddex Sonic Plus is from the latest TV Guide.  It’s a full page ad that was just about in the middle of latest magazine.

Attention grabbing? Yes in my opinion, but there’s a lot of room for improvement. I think the price and offer could be larger and make the product pics smaller. Is it really necessary to show the products so large? I don’t think so. Make the price more prominent along with the free shipping and I think the response would improve.

What’s your opinion? Vote Pass or Fail below the ad and then share your comments, suggestions and criticisms.

BTW, I was interested in seeing if this product actually worked. Looking around YouTube and Google it appears most people think not, while there were a few believers. One video actually had a mouse right next to the thing and the mouse wasn’t bothered at all. Amusing :-)

OXO (Promoted Tweet) ~ Pass or Fail?

I was just checking in on one of my Twitter accounts within HootSuite and the promoted tweet below from OXO caught my attention.  If you’re not familiar with promoted tweets, they are tweets that start out as normal tweets but then the advertiser pays to promote them so a wider audience will see them.

While this promoted tweet from OXO did catch my attention, it really wasn’t interesting enough for me to click on.

What are your thoughts? Check out the promoted tweet below and then vote Pass or Fail?

ValidatedSite.com (magazine print ad) ~ Pass or Fail?

Today’s ad is a print advertisement by ValidatedSite.com that is on the inside cover of my favorite magazine, Website Magazine.

ValidatedSite offers websites a seal of approval that is suppose to give visitors to your site a feeling that your site is trustworthy and a safe place to shop. I’ve never personally looked into their service, but there print ad caught my attention…. mainly because of the position. It has a nice attention grabbing headline, clean and easy to read font, promotion code to give incentive and a concise paragraph with some information about the service they offer.

Urban Dealight (display ad – 300 x 250) ~ Pass or Fail?

While looking up a recipe this morning the Urban Dealight display ad below caught my attention. It’s a medium rectangle 300 x 250 display ad that was above the fold in the upper right hand corner of a cooking site. Looks appetizing doesn’t it?  It caught my attention. Urban Dealight is similar to Groupon, although a good portion of Urban Dealight’s deals are food/restaurant based deals.

What do you think of the ad below? Would it grab your attention and make you click through? Vote Pass or Fail below and comment with your opinions and improvement suggestions.

AT&T network / iPhone (display ad – 160×600) ~ Pass or Fail?

Here’s a wide skyscraper (160×600) display ad from AT&T. It’s pushing the iPhone ability to talk and surf at the same time on the AT&T network. This ad was being displayed above the fold in the upper left side of a forum that discusses the iPad.

My opinion: Nice colors, but the word count could have been cut down a little further. It’s obviously an iPhone, so cut some of the words including the word iPhone… then in a larger font highlight the text “talk, surf at the same time”. With a little rework I think the brand and click through rate could be slightly improved.

What’s your opinion? Vote Pass or Fail below the ad, then comment with your suggestions, improvements and opinions.
